We are sponsoring the annual Colin Lewis Grand Prix hosted by Mid Devon Cycling Club at the Torbay Velopark on Sat, 7th May 2022.

The event is to celebrate the career of Colin Lewis – Olympian, Tour de France cyclist, British Pro Road Race Champion and Mid Devon President.

Colin Lewis was a top British professional in the 1960s and 1970s before retiring from professional racing in 1975.

In 1970 Colin moved to team Holdsworth and would remain with them through to his last professional season in 1974.

Lewis had 250 victories, 38 professional, including the Golden Wheel Trophy and the Linz am Rhine.

Sadly Colin passed away on 4 March 2022, at the age of 79.

The racing takes place at the Torbay Velopark a dedicated traffic-free 1 mile cycling facility at Paignton Devon with participants using road bikes. The circuit is a flowing horseshoe shape with hairpin corners, it promotes close fast racing and is an exciting spectacle.

There is racing for all age groups throughout the day starting at 10 am with the under 8’s and culminating with an adult race at 4 pm Entry is via the British Cycling website


On the day professional commentator Joe Fisher, and photographer Andy Styles will be present,  plus food and drink will be available so there’ll be something for all the family

If you’ve never raced before but are keen to get involved:

  • You’ll need a roadworthy bike and helmet
  • You can become a British Cycling member for the day which covers your event insurance
  • Adult riders start as 4th category riders and race for 1 hour
  • Under 16’s compete in two year age group bands
