THE SWIM

*Provisional route (subject to final approval)

Allerthorpe Olympic Triathlon, East Yorkshire: 1.5k

Comprising a 1.5k smooth open water lake swim in the safe man-made Allerthorpe Lake.

The swim at Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is a 2 Lap 750m open water swim set in the shallow and clear Allerthorpe Lakeland Park. Water depth is no more than 5 ft, so it’s pretty easy to stand up should you feel the need; it’s a swim, though, so no walking is allowed. The swim is wetsuit legal, so for all of us “weaker” swimmers, the wetsuit will really help keep those legs up to reduce drag.

Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is well sheltered from the wind, so the water is flat and not choppy, making breathing so much easier, because other than the splashes from fellow Tri-athletes, there are no waves.

Having completed the swim, it’s an easy jog to the bike rack to locate your bike and prepare for the 40k bike leg.

SWIM DIFFICULTY: 2/10

THE BIKE

*Provisional route (subject to final approval)

Allerthorpe Olympic Triathlon, East Yorkshire: 40km

A flat 40km road bike course around the quiet country lanes.

The roads around Allerthorpe are very flat, so is the bike course, and it should be easily tackled by anyone who is fit enough to ride a bike for around an hour.

The flat course makes the ride ideal for a blast around on your TT bike or clip-on aero bars, it’s fast and it’s flat.

BIKE DIFFICULTY: 2/10

THE RUN

*Provisional route (subject to final approval)

Allerthorpe Olympic Triathlon, East Yorkshire: 10km

Get those Alphafly’s on!  A very flat and very fast 10km run.

RUN DIFFICULTY: 2/10

Olympic Triathlon FAQ's

WHAT HAPPENS ONCE I HAVE ENTERED?

Once you have entered one of our events, the following will happen
You will receive an email confirming your entry with some general information.
You will then receive emails on the run-up to your event.
Approximately 10 days before your event, you will be sent, via email, your competitor race notes.
All the information you will need to know about your event will be within those race notes, from start times and your race number to registration and course logistics.:

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO WHEN I ARRIVE ON EVENT DAY?

On event day you need to go to registration and register.

Registration will be signposted and will be in the area of race HQ.

Ask a Marshall to point you in the direction if you are unsure.

At registration, you will be given everything you need to participate in your event. If you need to ask any questions, registration is the perfect place.

What do I get in my race envelope?

Your race envelope will be picked up when you go to register at the venue for your event (nothing will be sent to you through the post).

The content of your race envelope is as follows (this info is also in your competitor race notes):

Race numbers
Safety pins
Bike stickers
Helmet sticker
What are bike and helmet stickers, and how do I apply them?

The bike and helmet stickers are there for your safety, security and identification throughout your event.

There will be two bike stickers, one for the front of your handlebars and the other to go onto the seat stem of your bike.

Your helmet sticker needs to go onto the front of your helmet.

When do I need to put the stickers on my bike and helmet?

Once you have registered, they all need to be applied almost immediately.

You CANNOT go into the cycle transition area without your bike or helmet stickers being applied. This is for security reasons.

WHAT TYPE OF BIKE SHOULD I RIDE?

Although a road bike is recommended, the flat course makes the ride suitable for almost any bike. Many first-timers borrow a bike or use mountain or hybrid bikes. Of course, you will likely complete the ride in a faster time if you use a road bike and are used to riding one; however, you will be able to complete the race on anything with two wheels. Make sure it’s is in good working order and roadworthy. Marshalls will be looking over bikes in the racking area.
